When excursion week was cancelled in February due to coronavirus, our Physical and Health Education (PHE) team issued a challenge to all secondary MYP students: to create a fitness obstacle challenge. Like the Spartan Race, fitness obstacle challenge activities tested students’ physical limits, creative thinking and problem-solving skills. Renee Bellavance, PE MYP Subject Learning Lead, said:

“Megan Robar and I are both teaching the fitness unit and we wanted to give the students an opportunity to show their knowledge and understanding of the fitness concepts we have been studying - in a fun context.”

Two students from each class were put in pairs to develop a challenging fitness station that tested a specific fitness component. It took two days to plan, organise and set up, but the end result was an exciting obstacle course that helped secondary students push the limits of their comfort zone and to forge some new friendships. Well done everyone! After all, as Scott Hamilton, an American athlete, once said: "Adversity, and perseverance and all these things can shape you. They can give you a value and a self-esteem that is priceless."
