CIS students have regularly participated in the Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiad (SASMO) since its inception in 2006. This prestigious competition, designed for high-achieving students, aims to foster mathematical thinking and inspire interest and confidence in mathematical problem-solving.

This year, our 90 student volunteers from grades 7 to 10 did tremendously well, with 12 students achieving gold, 16 earning silver, and 20 securing bronze medals. These results reflect their hard work and dedication to mathematics, as well as the effective teaching strategies implemented by our maths department. The inquiry-based approach at CIS helps students approach mathematical problems in creative ways. We are proud to see so many of our students achieve success at SASMO every year as they pit their skills against questions that require them to demonstrate in-depth understanding of mathematical concepts.

Furthermore, 26 students also participated in the Singapore Mathematical Olympiad (SMO), with 1 student earning a gold medal, 2 earning silver, and 6 earning bronze. This is a commendable performance in a challenging environment. Hosted by the National University of Singapore’s Mathematical Society, the SMO involves a high level of competition.
