Do you want to take the first step towards saving the planet? Here are some practical tips from our Lakeside eco-warriors on how to kickstart your sustainability journey. But before you do that, grade 4 student Prachi recommends that you first look within yourself to find the love you have for Planet Earth. This, according to her, will motivate you to start making a big difference.

It’s never too late to start your sustainability journey. Here are the top 10 habits you can easily adopt:

Tip 1: Switch off lights and air conditioners when you are not using them.

Tip 2: Be more mindful of what you do. Understand the consequences of your actions so you can make better changes to your lifestyle.

Tip 3: Request for a free water-saving kit from PUB. It contains a set of thimbles with three and four holes that allow you to regulate the flow rates of your tap and showerhead.

Tip 4: Take public transportation because it transports more people in less space than individual automobiles. This helps to reduce air pollution!

Tip 5: Make the choice to go vegan one or two days a month because it helps to cut down on methane emissions emitted by cows.

Tip 6: Start small. One of the easiest ways to do that is to cut down on the use of plastic and reuse them where possible. For example, use metal straws instead of plastic ones.

Tip 7: Educate yourself. For example, the Art Science Museum has an interesting exhibition called ‘Planet or Plastic’ where you can learn about the harmful effects that plastic has on the environment.

Tip 8: Make sure your trash goes into the right bins.

Tip 9: Plant a tree!

Tip 10: Recycle, reuse and reduce! Use reusable bags for shopping, spend less screen time at home and go out for a breath of fresh air.

Sounds easy enough, so let’s all do our part for Planet Earth like our Lakeside Eco Warriors and these TK SK students making solemn promises to care for our planet!
